AN
EVENING SPENT ALONE
That
was the dress I thought I'd wear
Those were the ribbons for my hair
Some pretty shoes I bought as well
An evening planned for kiss and tell
Then there's that car that would not wait
That little card that came too late
And there's that date that didn't show
That was the evening spent alone
Some years have passed - I've changed my hair
Of love and sadness had my share
No matter how much I have grown
I can't forget that night alone
These are the friends whose names have gone
This is the house where I was born
Where growing up took too much time
And photos never show you crying
Who was that little girl back home
Look in the mirror see she's grown
So put away those childish tears
They're just your souvenirs
In these pages - dreams faded - making the same mistakes
Such a young heart to break
That was the dress I thought I'd wear
Those were the ribbons for my hair
I found these photographs from home
That was the evening spent alone.
Some years have passed - I've changed my hair
Of love and sadness had my share
No matter how much I have grown
I can't forget that night alone
